Hello! I am glad you have found my website!

My name is Brendon Hischar (my last name is pronounced hi-SHAR, it’s Slovak…), and I am an independent solo lawyer/attorney who practices law in New Mexico as Brendon Hischar Law Firm LLC. What you see is what you get–it’s just me, which means when you e-mail me or text or call the number that appears later in this website you will reach me (unless I’m busy working for someone else, in which case I’ll call you back!).

I am a 2018 graduate of the University of New Mexico School of Law, and I have other degrees from the University of Oklahoma, Western Carolina University, and the University of New Mexico School of Public Administration. I have been licensed to practice law in New Mexico since January 2020, and I started this firm and my practice shortly after that time.

Believe it or not, I went to law school wanting to do something besides practice law! I wanted the JD (law degree) for work in government, and I returned to a non-law government job following law school. At that job, some lawyers on staff encouraged me to obtain a law license, and I did so, taking (and passing) the bar exam in 2019 and earning a license in 2020.

Although I had no plans to actually use that license, the COVID-19 pandemic changed everything. Several people who lost loved ones during that difficult time asked me for assistance in settling their affairs, and I did so. A mentor of mine encouraged me to start handling contested cases, so I began accepting landlord-tenant cases, for which there was a big need at the time given all the economic uncertainty and housing insecurity in the community.

From there, after gaining some experience, I started taking larger and more complicated cases, not for any profit or business motive, but because a person in need asked me for help. Eventually, I realized I enjoyed assisting people through my practice more than anything else I was doing, and I decided to try and make my living off this, which brings us to today!

I invite you to learn more about my practice areas and how I could possibly assist. Please click or tap the corresponding links at the top of the page. I am glad you are here!
